Back To Normal

Hello, little blog.

It's been a little while.

It's hard to find quiet time to write when everyone is home all the time.  At this moment Noah is gone for a few hours, Adeline is watching Octonauts, and Oliver is playing in his crib rather than napping.

It's also hard to have the mental space and peace to write when there is so much going on.

Some version of lockdown is still going on here in Michigan.  I don't remember what the new "end date" is.  There has never really been a set date for everything to go back to "normal" anyways.

Our version of normal is going to be different whenever we are able to move about freely again.  Noah was laid off a month ago.  Hopefully he will have a new job soon.  Hopefully we won't have to move.  There are a lot of uncertainties right now and we're just trying to take it one day at a time.

I'm still baking bread.  I think I have finally figured out how to get fluffy sandwich bread when using freshly ground flour.  I'm hoping to write up a blog post about it at some point.  I made some hamburger buns the other day too that were pretty good.  They need a little tweaking, but it was definitely encouraging.

The kids are still cute stinkers.  Oliver loves to climb.  Adeline loves to play outside.

We have our garden planted.  This is the first year we have harvested asparagus and it has been so delicious!  Our snap peas did not sprout for some reason this year.  We'll be planting extra beans to make up for it.  This year we planted potatoes, three varieties of tomatoes, two varieties of beans, zucchini, spinach, and kale.

I have seedlings for my new landscaping area that are nearly ready to be planted in the ground.  My purple irises have exploded this year!  If anyone local would like to have some, I'll definitely be thinning them out at the end of summer.

One thing I have missed quite a lot during lockdown has been church.  We have watched services online and gone to the drive-in services a couples times, but it just isn't the same, and keeping the kids corralled in the car is difficult.  I can't wait until we can worship in the sanctuary again.

Our anniversary is tomorrow.  We're planning a nice dinner at home rather than going somewhere this year.  I think we're both missing going out.  We wouldn't do it very often before, but we would have done it for a special occasion like our anniversary.  We'll just have to make up for it at some point in the future.

Well, it looks like Oliver isn't going to nap, so I might as well go bring him down from his room.

I hope you all are doing well and that I'll be able to get back to writing on a more regular basis.

Some of our homegrown asparagus!
