How do they do it?

The mothers with young children who maintain regularly updated blogs, how do they do it?

I bought a domain for my blog last year, before we were pregnant with Oliver, and was determined to blog regularly now that I had a "real" website to work with.  Well, pregnancy, braces, photography, our daughter, and just life in general demanded my time more than blogging.  Right now I'm typing this on my phone while Oliver sleeps in my arms because he won't nap on his own in his bed.

I've been thinking a lot lately about why blogging doesn't happen.  Lack of time, obviously.  But when I do get a bit of time to myself, what do I prefer to do with it?  Take a shower, drink some tea, crochet, bake something delicious, or take a nap.  Because these are the things that help me recharge, de-stress, and refill my tank for the rest of the mothering I have to do that day.

So, blogging falls pretty low on the list.  And I've let my domain expire for now, going back to the blogspot address until I can more intentionally keep up with blogging and make it less intimidating for myself.  Because I don't have time to take pretty pictures, edit them, and pair them with a wonderfully thought out blog post to inspire people.  Going forward, the best you might get is a linked Instagram photo that was taken on my phone.

Here's to the hard work of mothering and all of its sweet and messy moments.
